Israel’s Advanced AI Military Technology in Gaza Conflict

Israel has rapidly deployed AI-powered military technologies during the Gaza conflict, using these tools in unprecedented ways. After targeting Hamas commander Ibrahim Biari with an AI-enhanced audio location system in October 2023, Israel has expanded its AI arsenal to include facial recognition for identifying partially obscured faces, automated target compilation systems, and Arabic-language AI models for intelligence gathering.

The audio tool that helped locate Biari led to an airstrike that killed the commander but also resulted in over 125 civilian casualties, according to conflict monitors. Defense officials indicate that the Gaza conflict has served as a testing ground for these advanced systems, marking a significant shift in how AI is being incorporated into modern warfare.
