Midjourney has just released the base model of their upcoming latest version v6, called Midjourney V6 alpha, and it’s getting a lot of attention. It was made available for alpha testing starting on December 21, 2023. You can try out Midjourney V6 Alpha on Discord during the winter break.
It’s really impressive compared to other AI image tools out there. The images it makes are not just realistic, but also keep the creative flair Midjourney is known for. It’s like getting the best of both worlds – realistic and imaginative images.

How To Enable Midjourney V6?
To use it, you go to a Discord server with the Midjourney Bot, like before. You’ll see a command called “/settings” that lets you switch between different versions of Midjourney. The default is probably V5.2, but you can change it to Midjourney Model V6 [ALPHA]. Then, you make images by typing “/imagine” followed by your idea.

Another way to use Midjourney V6 is by adding “—v 6” at the end of your prompts. This method is a bit more awkward, but it works. V6 is different from previous versions; it understands prompts better, so you should be very clear about what you want. If you want a realistic image, use “—style raw” in your prompt.

What’s New In Midjourney V6?
Specifically, David Holz called out several new features, including:
- Much more accurate prompt following as well as longer prompts
- Improved coherence, and model knowledge
- Improved image prompting and remix
- Minor text drawing ability (you must write your text in “quotations” and
--style rawor lower--stylizevalues may help) - Improved upscalers, with both
'subtle‘ and'creative‘ modes (increases resolution by 2x)” - You can prompt for more than one subject.
- Midjourney V6 is capable of understanding nuances of punctuation and grammar. (i.e. “A panda eats, shoots, and leaves.”)
- You can add text to your image.

Our Testing
Prompt No1: Leaked Gameplay of GTA VI

Midjourney not only understand the prompt but it automatically stick to the art used in GTA games and generated a pic very close to it.
Prompt No 2: Picture of newyork city squar with a billboard that has ” DigiAlps” writtin in it

We deliberately used a prompt with punctuation and spelling errors to see if v6 can understand nuances of punctuation and grammar and it did.
Prompt No 2: Hyper realistic photo of trump casting a vote in upcoming elections

Hand generation is still a problem for many image-generation tools, as you can see in the picture.
We conducted extensive testing on Midjourney v6 Alpha and noticed enhancements in detail and photorealism. However, the differences weren’t significant enough to distinguish between a V5.2 and a V6 generation when viewed side-by-side.

Conclusion
This new version is still in the early stages, which means it’s being tested and updated frequently. The creator, David Holz, mentioned in a Discord message that V6 will undergo many changes before it’s fully complete. V6 is still missing some features that the previous version, V5.2, had, like the ability to move the view left and right and to zoom out, but these are expected to be added in future updates.
Midjourney is highly regarded in the field of AI-generated art for its quality and creativity, and it continues to lead even though there are other competitors. These competitors use different models, including a popular one called Stable Diffusion, which works by turning random visual patterns into images.
However, Midjourney and similar AI art tools are currently involved in legal issues. They’re being sued by artists who claim these tools were trained on their work without permission or payment. Despite this, early signs show that the AI art generators might have a strong defense based on the concept of “fair use,” which allows limited use of copyrighted material under certain conditions.
